The Philadelphia Half award came in the mail yesterday: a sweet and cheesy plaque. I won’t be hanging it anywhere but it’s cute to have something personalized.

So I took 3 consecutive days off and am very happy to have done it. My foot feels healthy again, though you can still see a little bump on the knuckle that isn’t there on the other foot. I’m going for a 10-miler soon and might not use any moleskin for the first time in weeks (I’ve had to wear that stuff in all shoes this month, whether running or not). Crossing fingers for no drama. Meanwhile, I’ll keep on with ibuprofen for a few more days – it’s my savior, even if it does bloat me up somethin’ fierce.
Aside from that, I wrote a lot of personal stuff here and deleted it all. Stuff about love, self-sabotage and relaxing the reins. Too much deep shit. Instead, I’ll just share that I bought a really swell computer monitor and a cute little pocket camera. Buying stuff is cool.
Couple interesting reads
Here’s a great article that came out in the New York Times yesterday about maintaining fitness. Doesn’t take much to keep what you’ve got.
Another fun read is this little thing about Webb and Rudd working out in a hallway of a building to avoid their usual rainy deluge.

cheesiness aside, that’s better than most AG awards.
I agree, it’s the first one I’ve ever had with my name on it.
Agreed. Pretty Snazzy. Did you get to pick the photo? And I wonder what they do if you don’t have any (or don’t have any that you want on a plaque).
No choosing, I had no idea this would be the award (so it’s fabulous luck that I don’t look like a fool). Lol, I guess they figure everyone ends up crossing the finish line sooner or later.
For some reason, I often don’t get caught at the finish –I’ve had several major races where there were no photos at all of me.
You’re a phantom runner! Your “splat” one would be great on a plaque.
(can’t respond to the right comment, for some reason — maybe wordpress only allows 5 levels of comments?)
Anyways, great minds think alike. Splat photo is on the one and only photo plaque I own. Let’s see if I can show it here.

Alas, only links in comments, but I’m sure folks will click through. As for the comments, I have it set for 5 levels, otherwise the formatting goes wonky, but you did the right work-around. :-)
Yeah, as far as awards go, that’s not bad. If you really don’t want it in your home, you could try secretly tucking it among the memorabilia lining the walls of some sports bar and see how long it takes anyone to notice.
LOL!! Hilarious. Alternately, I could offer it to the guy crossing the finish line right after me. But I think I’ll keep it.
hahhaha Vince that is hilarious!
Here comes one of those “when-I-was-young” tales. When I was young and the weather was bad, we’d ran around the school’s halls, although they weren’t this long. Up stairs, down stairs. 60 yard sprints, etc. When the weather cleared, it was down to the track to shovel a lane or two and, like guys forced to dig their own graves in Westerns, we’d have to run on the damn thing.
It is a nice award. I don’t know what you do with the other ones you’ve received, but this should be prominent among them.
I love that, running through your school, it’s so hardcore runnerly. Lol on the grave digging.
When the weather’s bad here we’ve got the underground carpark at Parliament House – it’s about 300m per lap (with a gentle hill on the sides). ‘Bad’ for us, is a thunder storm and below 10C.
i like it. i think you should hang it on your front door. that’s really sweet.
and ibuprofen has been my savior lately too. miracle drug i tell you. hope the 10 miler went well and is drama free
Thanks Karyn, ended up going 9 (no reason to tempt fate) and all was well. Yay!
I like that plaque. As for that other stuff you alluded to, don’t forget you have quite a number of Web friends/fans out here thinking of you. Oh and I hope that foot holds up.
Oh, you sweet thing, I feel well-loved on that score, I’ll probably get into it eventually when I’ve got a clearer mind about it and am not embarrassed about what it says about me.
Nice plaque! I like it a lot, congrats!
Thanks, Steph!
