Barb, it's about 5%. Hey, you can see exactly how it is! <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=midvale+ave+and+ridge+ave,+philadelphia&daddr=midvale+ave+and+conrad+st,+philadelphia&hl=en&geocode=&gl=us&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=40.009056,-75.193792&sspn=0.008333,0.016544&ie=UTF8&ll=40.011543,-75.192897&spn=0.008332,0.016544&z=16" rel="nofollow">Here's the route </a>and if you drag the street view guy from the navigation bar, you'll see it in real view! (Google's Street View rocks). I was doing them at 7:48 avg.

Yeah, 14% would be probably too steep for 8 sec hill sprints, even.

Another REI lover here. I even broke down and got their credit card for more rebate goodness - it's scary to see how much I spend there. I hate shopping, except at REI.

What's the grade on your "repeat" hill? The only reasonably-close hills I have that are long enough are either not steep enough, or too steep (~14% grade). I do the short hill sprints on the 14% hill, but there's no way to get up to the top of that hill at even 5K effort without essentially walking, which I assume defeats the purpose.

Yikes about the car crash - I'm glad the driver (and the trees, I hope) were mostly OK.

Gels are cheap in the US - I bought back a heap from the last trip. They're about $3.50 each down here.

So you're running uphill for 3 minutes on those? That's a long hill. I think I'm too soft for that.

I still laugh about your one entry name of "Flo go boom". Glad you are okay, funny, my garmin is broke and today I threw my Timex ironman on, so I could pay attention to how long I was running (sometimes I zone out and lose track of time), and I forgot how much I like it.

Get to Chrono, then lower right is the Stop/Reset button. Hold it to reset then hit Start/Lap button (lower center) to start and at every lap. Hit Stop button (lower right when done with run). well, what jimE said.

If your Timex is anything like mine, then once it's in chrono mode you just hit the big button to start it going, then hit it again for each lap/mile/whatever.

Scary about that car crash. I witnessed a thing like that when I had just begun running, it made me think a bit. Now I carry ID and a phone on most runs.

Thanks for the gel tip!

Your run yesterday sounds quite similar to mine. I had a nice fall as well which was hilarious but no one was around to see :) It gets so slippery and plus theres acorns everywhere that roll right under your shoes.
