Wednesday was a mid-long 11-miler, yesterday was 6 easy and today is 5 with strides, these last two runs composing my mini-taper for tomorrow’s Adrenaline 5K.

I’m all a-tingle wondering how it’ll go.  It’ll be my third race in 3 weeks and the first time I’ve raced consecutive weekends, so there’s some novelty included already.

The Adrenaline is a cool race because it attracts a super speedy crowd.  Last year there were nine 14:xx finishers, fifteen 15:xx finishers and twenty-seven 16:xx finishers.  That’s some crazy fast running.  No chips though, so hopefully I won’t be shoved at the start by some jerk, as I was last year.

What am I hoping for?  I’d really love a 21:15.  Plugging last week’s race into McMillan, he predicts 21:24, so with that in mind, anything under 21:30 will be a good day.  The other thing is, I would really like to place – they gave out jackets last year which I thought was pretty cool.  Looking at last year’s results, I could do it, but as I’ve come to realize, it’s all about who doesn’t show up.  At least this one is split into 5-year age groups, which helps.

Weather for tomorrow looks ok though I wish it would be warmer; sunny and 33-36 windchill (just 3-5mph winds, so that’s a relief).  Looks like I have to wait for my next race on April 19th to wear shorts.

Before I sign off, here’s a shout-out to Lara who ran this race with me last year but is in a boot at the moment – you’ll be missed, girl!

Have a good Friday and I’ll see you all here tomorrow with some hopefully happy race reporting.

  • Good luck Flo. May your start be jerk-free. Go get that 21:15.
I see that last year it wold have got you an AG Win. Go Flo!

  • Christi:

Go kick some major a$$!!!!!! I know that you are going to have a great day and I am waiting patiently to read your RR.

  • Flo:

Thanks Jim and Christi, your constant support is absolutely huge and wonderful. When are you guys coming to Philly?

  • Lara:

Waaaaah…I wish I could run this with you again!!! Well, not actually WITH you ms speed demon but you’d make a good carrot for a mile or two until my legs reminded me that I don’t run much anymore.

But this time rather than hanging out for the awards to size up the women who beat us for prizes (I had forgotten that we were both 5th in our AG last year) I’d be cheering for you as you collect the goodies I’m sure are in your future.

Good luck woman! I know you’ll do great! I’ll be sending good vibes tomorrow a.m., while you’re lining up I’ll be hobbling down the stairs to make coffee.

    Go get ‘em ms flo!

  • Flo:

Aw Lara, I’m so sad. One thing you won’t be missing is the shirt. Remember how atrocious last year’s kelly green shirts were? I just got my packet…neon yellow and I mean my-retinas-are-burning NEON. It’s such a tease to say “we give tech shirts!” then make them so ugly they’re unwearable. Maybe Brooks will be giving out other shirts again, though I’ll miss your bold walking up and taking. ;)

  • Lara:

I saw the shirt mentioned on the registration page, they call that NIGHTLIFE GREEN/YELLOW – what a bummer and not only ugly – probably too big also. If Nick doesn’t want it Jeff will wear it under jerseys. Hopefully they have something more tasteful in addition to that again. Don’t be shy, just walk right up and get one although those will probably be too big also since the XS last year were big – and now that you are the incredible shrinking women it’ll be even bigger. Ask if they have kid sizes!

  • Flo:

So right about the sizing, but you’re so smart suggesting asking for kid sizes, I hadn’t thought of that. You’ll be with me in spirit, that’s for sure.

  • Good luck tomorrow, Flo! I like running races that attract a fast crowd, because you can usually find someone to pull you along, plus you see lots of faster runners to inspire you to keep training. This is one of the primary reasons I’m doing the California International Marathon in December.
