No Pickle! Less than an hour after I write the entry below I get this email:
“Due to the extreme cold and unsafe running conditions, this weekends Pickle run will be postponed until January 24th”
Well, that’s a pickle!
Oh well, I’m glad I was game for it anyway, I would never have even signed up for a January race last year. That’s progress.

Wimps.
Darn it!, and I was so looking forward to that report!
I usually go out fast when I don’t know what my pace is, It’s helpful it you know some of the other runners, and who you should be near. Wisdom of crowds and all that.
I agree with Julie, wussies.
So the big question, are you running anyway tomorrow? It will be 6 @ MP tomorrow at 6:00am with -2 windchill predicted for Progman. I am guessing you will be out there to keep your little streakette alive (if not than you are a double wuss).
BOOOOO.
I bet you’re better at self pacing than you think!
That map looked familiar. Back in February, my wife and I stayed at Sweetwater Farm B&B — a very nice place — and I saw that there were trails nearby, so I headed to them for a nice, relaxed run. It was to Ridley Creek. The trails I found were brutal. Single-track, steep-ups and steep-downs. I barely managed 30 minutes at a pace a full minute slower than it felt. No wimps on those babies.
Maybe you could do a practice run tomorrow morning. How cold are they talking when they say “extreme cold and unsafe running conditions”?
Lol, you guys are great, though after today’s run (my coldest yet), I can appreciate that it’ll be an easier time next week.
Julie, agreed!
Jim, I’ll only know Matt there, but he had the same idea as you and said it’s a good idea to ask people standing around me what they’re going for. Eek, I’ll have to speak to strangers!
Progman, jeez, is 6am the only time you can do it? Be careful out there! Of course my streak will still roll, but I won’t be in any -2ness, like you, it’ll be a hot 13 degrees by the time I get out.
Doggie, you have more confidence in my inner clock than me, having never tested it before. I hope you’re right!
Joe, that’s cool that you’ve actually run there. I admit to semi-wussing out myself, I chose the road race distance for the Pickle, but only because it’s more relevant to a normal 5K.
Mir, I just checked, it’ll be 4 degrees at 10am (race start). I guess if you’re wearing shorts and a singlet it would be unsafe.
I’m like you – a year ago if you’d told me I’d gladly go out for a run in 11 degrees, and LOVE it, I would have laughed. Just the running part would have made me laugh, but the cold? I found racing in 22 degrees really comfortable.
Sorry your race got postponed. Wimps!
Its January, why schedule a winter race if your going to cancel it for cold?
