Yesterday I was supposed to go 7, went 9 instead. Felt a twinge of the knee thing around mile 7.5 but not enough to stop. Again, felt perfect once I stopped running.
Today went for my 11, it acted up near the halfway mark. I ended up walking home 2.5 miles. I’m pissed and unhappy. Will be taking 2 days off for sure, possibly 3. Sigh.
That’s it for now.
Edited to add: I think it’s the IT Band after all. This is actually not bad news, because at least I know how to attack it: Ice, rolling and Ibuprofen for the next 3 days, then stretches. I can handle this.
Another edit: And I’ve just learned that poking and prodding the affected area was not the smartest idea.
The I can’t shut up today edit: Neglected to mention I fell flat on my face again, too, on the same little mud trail. I didn’t get hurt or even very dirty and the best part was no one saw me, but still…sucks, right? Kind of funny though.

Rest now, or pay later!! Yes it sucks! Just dont BABY it tho. You’ve been doing a lot of running, time to tune it down a little before something bad happens… can u hear ya body talkin to u?? Hope u bounce back soon and ready to pickup where u left off…
Having issues with that whole gravity thing, eh?
And I got out today after a couple of precautionary days off with a sciatic ache. It bothers me when I walk or sit but not when I run. And it’s beginning to piss me off.
You forgot one key to curing ITB- stretching. Seriously, stretch like it’s your job. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks Weekend, don’t worry, no babies allowed!
Joe, I’m sorry to hear that your sciatica’s giving you trouble. I’d be pissed too.
LA, if you have a favorite stretch, let me know.
roll your ass too. Get the whole frigging thing. I think I have some stretches from a website, I’ll try and find them
Well, crap weekend. First Julie DNF’s, now you’re hurt, and rolling in the mud again. Pull yourselves together, ladies!
But seriously, take care of that thing, and don’t over-stretch it. You’ll find something to do with the non-running time. Write blog entries, or something.
You know im not going to even comment till the final edit.
Hope your alright.
Doggie, thanks babe, I’m on it now, though I’m kicking myself for wasting a few days because I didn’t think the roller was doing anything. Ditto on the Ibuprofen, it was dumb of me to only do it the one day – I should take it for a few days straight.
Jim, I’ll conveniently still be in t-shirt hell, so I’ll be well occupied. Almost glad I have to deal with it, since it’ll take my mind off my evaporating fitness. (joking, joking)
Thanks Bruce, I’m fine and fab, just relieved to have figured it out so I can do something positive about it.
Shoot – but good you’re being smart about it. Ice ice baby ice ice baby.
There is no doubt about it “twinges” suck!! Smart to get on it right now.
I am sorry to hear about your ITB. I, too, suffer with that on occasion. I have a gravity story that will make you laugh. I was riding my bike up near Gold Camp road, which is like a mountain climb in Colorado Springs. I was coming from a stop could not get my left foot back into my pedal and dropped right in the middle of the street. My right foot was stuck in my pedal so I dropped hard on my right side. I have some nice road rash on my knee and arm. YEA! To make matters worse, I fell right in front of audience! Well, at least, I have my one fall for the season!
Take care of your injury!
Hey woman. Late to the party. I am glad you are figuring out what is causing the pain. Sounds like you’ve got it figured out. Good thing you’re in the maintenance part of training (if that makes anything feel better). Thanks for the shout out! I really love hearing from you and knowing you’re pulling for me. Take care of that ITBand. Sorry about the spill also. Have a great day! XOXO-Jackie
Sorry about the injury. You will be going strong again in no time. I know how you feel. I stopped running when my mom past away at christmas time. Now I have trouble getting going again as I am plagued with split shins. Just bought a new pair of runners so maybe that will help. Take it easy!
I was so bad and didn’t say hey to my girls BlackBear, Heidi, Christi and Jackie!! Thanks for your comments.
Christi, ouch on the fall, sounds like when Nick was getting used to his clip-on pedals, he had road rash for a couple weeks.
Karyn, welcome to the blog! So sorry to hear about your mom, that’s a hard one. And now shin splints? Aargh. Get a foam roller if you don’t have one, they really get into those painful crevices like nobody’s business.
