Yesterday was supposed to be a 6-miler with hill sprints at the end. I felt like crap once I got out the door though, partly from a lack of sleep (we went to my best pal’s 50th birthday party in NYC Sunday night) and partly thanks to my “lady time”.

I couldn’t even deal with 6 lousy miles. I cut it at 4.5, though I did manage 4 hill sprints because I’d have been pissed at myself if I didn’t at least attempt them. They were completely anti-climatic, little 10-second nothings, but whatever, I did ‘em.

Then last night, I was thinking about this 4x2k@10k workout, realizing I’ve never done 5 miles of speedwork because, well…it sounds horrible. And if I’m not exactly fond of long intervals, why do 1.25 mile ones? So I compromised and made it 4xmile@10k pace w/3min jog recoveries.

It turned out to be one of my better workouts. Somehow, the dreaded mile intervals weren’t as heinous as in the past. My goal was 7:09/mi. They went 7:11, 7:01, 7:04, 7:07 – Average pace 7:05.

Looks like Sub 45:00 on March 1st is a likelihood. Cool.

I agree, 5 miles of speed work? Ugh. I dont mind the 1.25s so much though, but luck, later in a cycle (I think I’ve I’ve done maybe 3 on an outdoor track).
Your times are right there though, damn, you’re gonna have a great 10k!

Yeah, I took the 4x2k from the end of the sharpening phase, where it makes more sense to be (bet it sucks at that point, too). Thanks for the vote of confidence, girl, much appreciated.

  • Excellent times, wow. You’re gonna fly around that 10K!

Sub 45! Holy cow!!! I just amazed at how fast you are. You’re makin’ all us ‘old hags’ – insert whistling smiley face – look awesome!!! I think I’m more excited about your races than my own!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!

wow, nice paces! you’re going to rock that 10k. can’t wait to see how you do.

  • First of all, I have to laugh since our “lady times” are in sync, and therefore I’m feeling just as logey as you are. However, while you’re able to be a speed demon, I’m only able to eek out a 4-miler @ a 10-minute mile pace. (Okay, that was yesterday; today I managed to run 8 miles @ 8:59 average pace. But it’s STILL way slower than you). But can I use the excuse I’m running a 50K this weekend and therefore am saving myself? :)

Wow! I understand the bad run day! Yesterday was a bad one for me. For various reasons! Mostly because the treadmill I was on sucked!!!!! I swear the thing was stuck on 3% incline even though it said 0%. I know I sound like I am whining but I compared it to the other treadmills and it was inclined. If I a lying I am dying. :) Anyway, today is another day and fartleks are in my future. Time to kick some butt!
