This Wednesday at 4pm EST, I’ll be a guest on Runners Round Table, hosted by my fellow blogging friend (and speedy runner guy) Joe Garland. The subject is near and dear to my heart “Reasons not to run a marathon”. Perfect, huh?
The Round Table is recorded live with a panel of guests and includes a chat area where listeners can make comments. This is all new to me, btw, I’ve only ever heard Runners Round Table as a recorded podcast so I’m still figuring out the nuts and bolts of it. Anyway, I’ll be posting it here in podcast form for those of you who want to give it a listen after the fact.
I’m looking forward to it since I’ve never done anything like it before, plus the subject matter is obviously near and dear to my heart. My only concern is that I’ll throw out a cuss word since I tend to do that. Cross fingers for me that I behave properly.
The Weekend In Running
Was fucking great.
But seriously, something clicked this week – my easy runs haven’t felt this fast and light since mid-September. Wednesday to Saturday’s paces included sub8s to low 8s despite the previous day’s speed or hill reps. Recovery, shmovery, I wasn’t having any. Of course, I know better, so yesterday, I followed the law and ran 13@ 8:30 avg. Total for the week: 67.25 miles.
Here are the last couple weeks of running, Mondays to Sundays.

Hey Flo, I was also a guest on the runner’s round table a few months ago talking about strength training, nutrition, and stretching for runners. I had a great time. You will too. Let us know how it goes if I can’t make the call.

I, for one, can’t wait to hear the podcast. Your voice just has this soothing effect on me, except when you drop an “F” bomb! Sounds like fun! I’ll be on the road until Thursday, so hopefully it will be available to listen by then. I am sure you’ll have a blast.
yay runs that click! i think that having boston behind us is allowing our runs to be effortless. awesome week! can’t wait to listen to that podcast. sounds really interesting and cool
Aahhh perfect! I can’t wait to hear it. Personally, cussing comforts me, drop as many f-bombs as you like…
Eeeeekkkk! I am so excited! That is totally cool! After reading the comments above, just wondering, are you allowed to cuss on it? LOL, it will be great no matter WHAT You say!
I’m looking forward to the podcast of this one! Kick some serious butt for the affirmative!
Cool, so i’ll be able to download it to my ipod then! It’s funny how the mileage by itself (ya know, with no LR’s) doesn’t look like 67 miles.
I know, right? It’s the lack of a day off that gets the mileage up there. It’s so much easier to do than when it’s 67 miles with a 20 and a day off. But I must correct you, 13 is a LR in my new world.
I’ll download it. Maybe they’ll bleep the cuss words, so we can play the game: Was that the F word or the S word I wonder? As for the subject matter, well hahahaha!
I dare you to say “shmovery”! LOL.

Hi Flo. I have been following your blog and I also recently started posting on the BQ babes forum on runner’s world. I sent you a message on faceboook as well. On the BQ forum, one of the girls linked me to your blog because I had a DNF on Sunday and your story was similar to mine and when I clicked on the link, I remembered reading it on your blog prior to Sunday night. I was running my first marathon on Sunday and made it to mile 25 and woke up in an ambulance. I was hoping to be able to talk to you about how you get past the fear of getting back out there again? I was only 1.2 miles away from finishing and that distance is haunting me right now. I would love any advice you would be willing to give me and by the way, I grew up in Western Pennsylvania.
Oy, I feel for you, I just wrote on your Wall at FB. Don’t let this scare you, once it happens, you can be sure you don’t do it again!! :-) Carry water, that’s my big advice. Simple but effective. Feel better and consider this a painful lesson but know you’ll never have to go through that again because you won’t let yourself! Hugs.
