They’re up, though it took some sorting in Excel to figure out my standing since they’re ordered by prediction winners.

I was the 2nd woman and fifth finisher in the 3.08 run with a time of 21:46.  That works out to a 21:54 5K.  Woohoo!  Sayonara 22′s – it was short and sweet, but I hope we never meet again. :D

Now the question is, how much of that improvement was due to weight-loss (currently down 6 lbs.), how much was training and how much was not wearing a watch.  Crazy set of variables, huh?

The lack of watch could go either way.  I suspect the weight-loss had a substantial hand in it, but then again, I started running every day this month and have been doing those progression runs and keeping up the intervals…

Eh, who cares?  I’m getting faster.

  • Faster, ever faster. keep it up Flo!

Interesting that you thought it might be the absence of a watch. Going out fast does not seem to be as harmful in a 5K, and is often a good tactic on a congested course. But yeah, 6 lb down is going to make a difference…

  • Flo:

Jim, yeah, definitely the weight made a difference. The reason I say it could also be the watch is that every time I race, I’m trying to hit a number off McMillan’s calculator. When I see I’m too fast, I slow down, when I see I’m too slow, I speed up (or try to, anyway, lol). Without that “governer”, I could have been going slower or faster than usual, though I don’t think I went out too fast. Either way, it must have some effect.

  • Tobey:

I probably won’t be around much anymore, my mother warned me about hanging around with fast women :) !

  • Well i would say 32.5% no watch, 58.7% the weightloss, 41.2% due to training, 4.4% proper fueling and 6.9% to unknown variable.

  • Nice job. I’m chasing sub 21 too. You’re on your way.

You do realize that winter running is supposed to be more difficult, right?

  • Christi:

    Congrats!!!

  • Flo:

Thanks guys and gals, much love to you.

Julie, from your lips… Waiting anxiously for your Half report.

ShoreTurtle, you’ll get there first, for sure, but I’m honored to be in your company.

    Bruce
    , nice math. :)

    Tobey
, I may be fast, but I’m loose. Ew.

    Christi, thanks cutie!!

  • That’s great news, Congratulations!! I, also, found when I lost weight the running was easier. But then I’d have to run longer to burn the same calories. *boo* *hiss* :)

I really need to put some running news on my blog. ;)

  • Jackie:

I will go with ALL OF THE ABOVE! Wow! Congratulations on being the 2nd female.

  • Flo:

Thanks Stacey and Jackie. As for being 2nd female, it was a small race. But I’ll take it!
