What's this about you being lucky? You've worked your tail off, and I can't wait to see you blow up your marathon PR.

Joe, my fellow Age Grade Groupie...with your writerly talents, it'd be nothing short of theft. :-) Love hearing your fond memories of the river, even if they do center around women in various stages of undress.

ESG, wow, I didn't realize that! You've already left that in the dust, but I'm so glad you brought it to my attention since you ended up with a 3:17 (that's a number I'd be way happy to own). I do believe I'm all cheered up. Thank you!

GIM, that's a damned solid performance by any standard, though I understand the feeling of the "disappointing PR". The fact that you ran such even splits means that you couldn't have done much more on this particular day. Bear in mind that your HM PR is now faster than mine (damn those 11 seconds!), set 5 weeks before my BQ at Sugarloaf. In other words, you are poised for a very, very strong full in November. Just don't let this race force you to overdo it, lest you aggravate old injuries or find yourself some new ones.

Self-reflection is permitted; wallowy self-criticism is not! ;-)

Rest and recover. -ESG (Ron)

79.7? The real deal. When I ran against Grete once, she was breathing like a freight-train. So you're in good company.

Hah, you don't start counting down until Mile 8? Neither do I; at that point I know I can't finish.

One of my most pleasant running memories: Years ago I was in Philly for the week-end. It was an unusually warm spring week-end. There's nothing quite like running along the Schuylkill River when women runners overdress and must strip down to their sportsbras.

They say good writers borrow, great writers steal. I'm borrowing your "It never felt easy today but I told myself as the miles ticked by that if I wanted it to feel easy, I wouldn't be racing."
