First off, many many thanks for all those great treadmill weigh-ins on the previous post. You guys are fabulous for taking the time to share your thoughts about it and tips for dealing with it. If you haven’t checked out the comments yet, take a gander, there’s lots of good stuff to read there.
Gifted Runner Coolness
A couple weeks ago, a nice lady from More Magazine contacted me to say she was putting together a slideshow of the funniest running shirts for the More Magazine website and wanted to include my “Tapering” shirt. They’re also sending this slideshow out to all the participants of the More Half Marathon in NYC (huge event) in an email blast, so this is very cool – especially because I never do anything for marketing. Hell, I haven’t even added a new design in over a year, so that’s one of the things I’ll be doing on my 2-week running hiatus: adding new designs.
Anyway, check it out! Mine’s #16 and looking fine.
Final Week
5 more days and then I’m outta here, California bound. It’s only for a long weekend but man, it will be so nice to be in non-freezing temps for a change. Can’t wait to see my friends Jackie and Louis (my fabulous hosts for the weekend and a way-cool couple), Barb, Matt plus a few souls I’ve never met but know from the forums and Facebook, plus fellow blogger, Kristin. Finally and hugely, there’s Coach A muse/Adam who, if he knows what’s good for him, will invest in a set of earplugs since I’ll be screaming like a madwoman when I finally get to meet the dude.
And with that, I wish you all a happy Monday, Happy MLK day and may this be the start of a kick-ass week for everyone. Later, kids.

Can’t wait! Cool on your shirt. I hope it brings in a ton of business so you have more CA trips! Hugs – Jackie
Woohooo!! Almost there, babe!
Since I just got back from SoCal, figured I would give you a heads-up. Yes, the warm weather is a nice change. It was wonderful not to have to take more time to put on layers than to actually run. i had to laugh at the locals who were running in the gear similar to what I had left back east, while I was in short/t-shirt. Sorry, not a Gifted Runner variety. :-(
But I had forgotten how much less dry (nice grammar) the air is when the temps are warmer. It’s one of the main reasons that I love winter running so much, since the air is so crisp and dry. My breathing on my first run out west was somewhat labored but settled out after awhile. Just a reminder to get a shakeout run or two in so that you can acclimate your lungs. I’m sure that you will do great. Good luck!
Thanks for that bit of info, Sloan, I was wondering if 60 degrees here translates to feeling the same as 60 degrees there (with the air being different).
It was mostly high 50s when I was there but it never felt overly humid, or warm. Just less dry than our current crisp winter air. And the fact that I was wearing less layers for the first time in several months made me feel lighter. I’m sure that it will be a comfortable run for you. Good luck!
Very cool about the shirt! Congrats! Will they be publishing that in the magazine, too? Have fun this weekend!!!!!
I think it’s just the website, but every little bit helps.
Congrats on the shirt! Have fun in Cali!!
Thanks, Steph!
Two of our marathon trainees were discussing black toenails a few weeks ago, and one said: “I saw a shirt that said: ‘Who needs toenails anyway?’ and did not know what it meant. Now I understand.”
Yes Flo, your shirts are famous!
Neat-o Frito! Thanks for that tidbit, Jim, you put a big smile on my face.
lol I like neat-o frito! gonna have to use that
OMG, I forget what a youth you are! I love that about you.
yay for going to cali! i wish i was going with you. love the shirt
Thanks, girl. I’ll drink a cocktail in the sun in your honor.
Awesome – congrats! I want the “I’ll get there eventually” one with the turtle… that is me as a newbie runner… sloooooooow but doing it
The newbie time is the fun time, big gains are in your future. Bet you’ll have more in common with a hare than a turtle before too long.
Well done on the shirt exposure. You had the best one of course, but I liked Badass Mother Runner. Enjoy the warmer temps… I’m doing that right now
You and those twisted seasons. Glad you’re enjoying your summer right now (or is it Spring?)
It’s Summer, but not the hottest we’ve had (low 30s C). Days are starting to get shorter – it’s dark at 8.30PM :-(
Congrats on the shirt- that’s awesome! I like yours & “Who fartlek’d?” the best. Have a great time in Cali- so jealous!
Thanks, Lauren!
Cool on the t-shirt publicity. Excellent on the long weekend in Cali. As for Adam, don’t believe the hype, as it’s mostly self-fueled. ;-) Have fun and run fast!
LOL, I know, he’s such an avid self-marketer, it’s pathetic. Thanks boyee, I hope to!
You must post some pics with Skye – the famous CA running dog. Safe travels and have fun!
Oh girl, you know it! I can’t wait to wrap my arms around that dog’s neck and give him bunches o’ kisses. Such a beautiful huggy bear. Thanks for the wishes!
