I just saw this on my calendar. Today marks my 2nd year of running, starting with my first run/walk day of C25K. Well, ok, I started on week 3 because I’d been doing some fitness dvds for a few weeks beforehand. This was my first day running:

Brisk 5min warmup walk, then 2 repetitions of the following:
* Jog 200 yards (or 90 seconds)
* Walk 200 yards (or 90 seconds)
* Jog 400 yards (or 3 minutes)
* Walk 400 yards (or three minutes)

I knew from the start that I was in love with it, so sure of my mounting obsession that it was only a couple weeks later when I splurged on a Garmin. Some things you just know.

Anyway, without any fanfare (because I didn’t remember the anniversary till afterwards) I did an easy 11 today though it rained the last couple miles, it was a sweet run. Sometimes dark and cloudy is beautiful.

Because I don’t have much to say today, I’ll leave you with this non-sequitur of a clip. If you watch The Soup, you’ve seen cupcake trance doggie, if not, enjoy.

  • Well foo, they took it down. So now I’ll never know Cupcake Trance Doggie :(
    Congrats on the anniversary. Flo. I don’t recall my exact day, since I was not keeping a log then, but it would be about now.

  • Flo:

    No they didn’t, the doggie is still there, try again! Here’s an alternate link.

    Happy anniversary to you too, or somewhere’s about now. :-)

  • Hahaha! Away Stains!
    It’s interesting to compare that workout with some of the stuff you’re doing now. I never did a jog-walk phase, because I didn’t know any better. I just ran progressively longer distances. I was up to 3 miles when I discovered Hal Higdon’s website, Then I was doomed. My first race was a 12K, so perhaps I was distance-oriented even then.

  • Flo:

    Sounds like you were definitely distance oriented to start with a 12k as your first, I’m impressed. I remember lurking on the Coolrunning site forever before I did anything about it and that first 5K, wow – I’d never seen runners all together like that before. It was like being on Mars (if Mars was the home to great-looking people in shorts).

  • Awesome post – look at you now. So what was your time in that first 5k just out of curiosity?

  • Flo:

    29:08 (was a short course, but that’s the adjusted time). I knew to be happy with a sub30 for my first because I was already addicted to the RW forums at that point, lol. What was your first?

  • doggie poo:

    happy anniversary! Is there cake involved? There should be cake.

  • Flo:

    Hee hee, I couldn’t agree with you more. Might have to treat myself to some Girl Scout Thin Mints as a weak substitute.

  • This calls for some cupcakes!

  • Congratulations on your running anniversary!

  • Flo:

    Hah, cupcakes.

    Thanks ShoreTurtle!

  • Happy Anniversary, Flo! Your first day of running looks remarkably similar to mine.

  • Happy Anniversary!! You’ve come along way baby.

  • Flo:

    Thanks Julie and Bruce!

  • In my first 5k (in my second running life, as Jim2 would say) the results were tabulated by them ripping the tag with your name on it from the bottom of your bib at the finish. Since I didn’t know what the hell that tag was for, in a moment of nervous angst at my car before the start I tore the tag off and threw it in my bag. So the official at the finish just looked at my like I was an idiot (which of course I was). So I don’t know what my finish time was, but I’m sure it was REALLY REALLY fast :)

  • Christi:

    Congrats on your anniversary!!!! That is too cool! You have come a long way baby!

  • Jackie:

    Happy Anniversary Flo! Gotta love that first workout. You have come amazingly far and I am so proud of the way you have tackled the very next challenge. You have been such an inspiration to me with your dedication, wisdom, intelligent approach and humor. Keep up the good work! Here’s to many more years of runnin [clink]. XO Jackie/HG

  • Flo:

    Aw, I love you people!

    Jackie, that is the sweetest note, thank you so much and I swear, all those things are true right back at you, it’s been wonderful getting to know you over these past few months.

    Lol, Christi and Bruce, all this “You’ve come a long way, baby” is making me want a long, skinny cigarette while dancing in a beach outfit. ))

    Progman…doh! Too funny.

  • Hey Progman, at our club we still use the tear-off tag method. Chip systems are expensive and we only charge $5. We always have to explain to runners to leave it in place, and not to pin the tear-off part. You are not alone in the doh! department.

  • Happy Run-iversary!

    I didn’t write it down, but I think my first day went something like this:

    Brisk 5 minute walk.
    Run 40 yards.
    Double over.
    Stumble in zigzag pattern 70 yards, trying to catch breath.
    Look for water bottle.

    I’m pretty sure it was something like that.

  • Flo:

    HAHAHAHA Vince! I just chortled out loud. I’m lying, I totally cracked up. Too funny. I’m still laughing.

  • Congrats on your running anniversary. So what are you going to do for your anniversary?? Lemme guess… RUN!!!

  • Flo:

    Da Weekend, how’d you guess? ;)
