Just a catch-up for the week so far:
Monday was 8.5 recoveryish w/8 hill sprints (8:48). Tuesday was 9 w/ 8x2min@10k pace. The fast bits came out to 6:44 avg, 8:02 avg for the run. This morning was 12 w/ last 5 miles “moderate”, so 7:43 for the “moderate” miles, 8:13 avg for the run.
Now, a shoutout for an RW forumite I’ve had the pleasure of running into this week and last, Jennrageous. The first time I passed her from behind and thought it might be her because she was dressed like her avatar. The second time I passed from the front and knew it was her because again she was dressed like her avatar (though she swears it’s not the same top).
We exchanged hi’s and have since messaged each other on RW. I was saying it was great she wore her avatar outfit because I’m so bad recognizing people to which she insisted that was a different blue top, she owns more than one running top and to prove it, she’d wear pink this week, lol. I’ve already seen her twice this week in two very cute pink tops, as promised. Funny how I didn’t know her at all and now we’re running into each other almost every day. Gotta love the internet.
Another shout out goes to Mr. 12 Miles, a cute runner I pass about 5 times/week (there are so many regulars on my route). We’d never spoken to each other, only waved, until last week when he said “you going 12 again?” which I think is code for “I’ve seen your blog”. Then he asked me again this Monday if I was going 12, so Hey Mr. 12, I missed you today because I did go 12 and was dying to say “today’s the day!” Oh well, bet I’ll see him tomorrow.
And that’s all I got today from Flo Central. Run well, all.

I just heard your swedish fish ritas voiceover on B 101:) At least I think you said you did that one…
I like how Hudson’s paces are changeable. based on how you’re feeling. although he does warn against going too fast when your’re supposed be at easy pace. We’re working to a similar marathon pace, so I’m looking at your paces and nodding. I just have to resist the temptation to virtually pace you when doing these workouts
Runforlife, cool! Yeah, that’d be me. When I listen to radio it’s XM so I miss out on hearing myself, thanks for letting me know.
Jim, it’s fun that we can run in each other’s shoes this cycle, though I expect you’ll scoot ahead of me about…now.
One thing I forgot to mention was my Garmin went totally wacky today at about the 2nd mile, lost satellites for a long time, so I was running by effort since “lap pace” was bogus. I was actually surprised about the moderate bit, thought it was closer to 8:00s.
That’s neat. The Internet’s great for that – I eventually got to run with Mr Kangaloo after being a long-time reader of his blog.
Hope the rest of the week goes well. Nice hill sprints – and I hope you’re right about my race being a one-off dud. At least it wasn’t a marathon!
Great job on the 6:44s! It’s really, REALLY coming together for you! Keep up the good work.
Be careful out there, it’s not just the sickos you have to look out for! Of course with the training times you are posting, I doubt anything is going to be quick enough to fall on you!
PHILADELPHIA — A woman jogging in a Philadelphia park has been killed by a falling tree branch just days after a similar incident in New York’s Central Park left a man comatose.
Police say it was a freak accident that killed the woman Wednesday evening in Fairmount Park, one of the biggest parks in the world.
Chief Inspector Scott Small says a 30-foot-long branch fell on the woman from 50 feet above. He says she was killed instantly.
Police say it’s possible the unidentified woman didn’t hear the branch breaking because she was wearing a portable music player, which was still playing when they arrived.
Last week, a Manhattan computer engineer walking to work through Central Park was hit on the head by a 100-pound rotted tree branch. His mother said over the weekend he was getting better.
Ewen, you know it is! Next one will be better, I swear.
LA, thanks sweetie, you’re such a great cheerleader.
Jhowdy, I saw that on a local running board yesterday, thanks for posting the report. The other thing is they can’t identify her because she didn’t have ID so this is an important reminder for all of us to carry something with your name and a phone number on it when you run. And I just ran on Forbidden Drive last Sunday (with an iPod).
How sad that she has not been identified. Great point on the ID, a Road ID or similar is so effortless.
Flo Rida! LOL at my shoutout! It cracks me up seeing you, too. Totally makes me smile.
Thye ID’d the girl killed while jogging now by an old HS Tshirt. Someone calculated that she would have had only 1 second to react. I dont know about you guys but I get a little out of it while jogging. Definatley dont think I could have reacted in time.
Val, thanks for the update, that is too sad. And yeah, who knows what kind of warning something like that gives you? Even if it made a loud sound and she wasn’t wearing an iPod, I could imagine you might not realize where the sound is coming from and by the time you look up, it’d be like the classic cartoon safe falling on your head. Gives me the shivers.
I’m jealous that you have regulars on your route. I never do. Part of that is probably my own fault for running at different times/places each day though, so I guess I can’t complain… I do often see the same fisherman and homeless people along the East River when I run my most typical route. Does that count?
Hi Flo! I’ve been out of town this summer, and am missing you on the BQ thread. Waaah, why can’t our running paths somehow cross even though we’re 3000 miles apart? I’m so glad your running is going well – those paces are amazing, woman! As someone in the same AG as you, I want to put a bug in your ear about the Senior Games – eligibility begins at 50. My Cali forum buddy CharliePro took 3rd OA in the 10K yesterday, and I’m sure you’ll place well in a few years once you’re eligible.
Barb, that is very cool to know, thanks! I was wondering what sort of things exist for us maturing folks and that sounds like a wonderful goal to shoot for (even if “Senior” does invoke a walking cane or wheelchair, lol). Hugs for not “seeing” you in a while, I do miss you and the rest of the babes.
Robert, hah!

They’re held every 2 years. I think Charlie said the next one (2011) will be in Texas.
I don’t think I’ve ever asked you this. Being the “Runner Goddess” that you are, when your IT band was acting up mid-run, what type of stretches did/do you do??? I can’t figure out if it’s my IT band or “runner’s knee.” Kicks in about the last two miles of all of my long runs. Sat. I had 14 and at about 12 it literally was biting me!!! Any info you can provide me with would be fab!!! HaPPY mONDAY!!
Barb, I’ll be 49 so will have to skip the next one, but that’ll work out great because you’ll be the right age, too! It’s never too soon to schedule an FE!
Heidi, if it’s IT trouble it’ll be on the outside of your knee with a real burning sensation when it kicks in. I wasn’t able to keep running when I felt it, seemed like my leg would buckle. When I got it down to being able to run through it, the usual IT stretch (Figure 4) was what I’d do to finish the run. Runner’s knee usually presents behind the knee cap.
