How appropriate that on Easter, my Garmin came back to life.  I guess it was the rain that temporarily did it in yesterday, water must have entered the housing.  But I was not accepting of this fate, so last night I kept turning it on and messing with it.  Eventually the buttons started working again and the screen stopped scrolling as madly, then this morning, all was peaceful with the world again.  Garmin lives.

So Garmin and I enjoyed a fantastic long run today, you could tell we were deeply in love by the numbers it gave and by the adoring glances I couldn’t help bestowing upon it.  16 miles @ 8:07 avg. pace and since Hudson called for the “last 15min Hard” the last couple miles netted me 7:16s.

Couldn’t believe how easy the whole run was, which I believe may be linked with the wrapping up of my Lady Time – looking back on my logs I see a trend in the hormonal department.  Whatever the reason, one thing is sure: I really, really liked it.

  • Hooray! You might want to use the other one on rainy days, though…

Don’t want to seem like a wet blanket, but 8:07 is getting kinda quick for a long run. Call it an MP run?

This is me smiling all Cheshire-like…I was trying to get away from posting HR info because I was thinking it was becoming too anal, but my average HR for the run was 73% – just a regular li’l old aerobic run. :D

  • Damn… what an awesome pace!
You sure have turned a corner, and become very speedy!
    Congrats on a great run.

Congrats on the great long run!! My long run was in the snow up a moutain. Okay maybe not a mountain but pretty damn close. The first 50 mins were all up hill and the last 1/2 of course was running back downhill. My coach got up with me on the downhill and egged me on the entire way back down. I really did not like her at the time!!!!! :)

I am glad to hear you Garmin has risen!! Keep up the good runs and the great updates!

    Thanks Flyers! Much appreciated.

, sounds like a tough run. Just think of the rewards that you’ll receive from suffering through it (that stuff adds up, for real).

  • The manual saids the thing can be submerged for 30 minutes or so. I bet some moisture got inside it and once it warmed up it dried out. I have had that happen to other things I own. Good run too!

I can’t believe how fast you have gotten!

If I train for shorter races for the rest of the year, I will run my long runs at faster than my current MP, right? Riiiiiight? LOL. The idea is definitely growing on me.

You are a huge inspiration to me!!

  • Flo:

Hey Preston, nice to see you here. :)

, the only way to see is to go for it, but I’ll bet my Balegas that you’ll have your own set of dramatic improvements, too. I wouldn’t have traded this shorter race cycle for anything in the world, because in my case, I responded much faster to training by having those long Long Runs out of the picture for a while.

I will suggest trying to keep your mileage as high as you comfortably (and enjoyably) can, even without a marathon looming. That way, when marathon training comes again, all you have to do is increase your weekend runs a little.
