Had an entertaining workout this morning, the one I mentioned in the last post.  Wasn’t sure how I’d feel since my week’s been pretty slow, though yesterday I was out of Recovery and into the low end of Easy again so I figured I’d be ok.  It went fine and right on pace.

Workout was 12.60 total miles with 2x(10×400@10k-5k pace, 1min recoveries) 2:20 between sets.  Averaged 1:39 for the first set of 400s, 1:40 for the 2nd (for the record, actually 1/4 miles, not 400s).

I feel all caught up now and am looking forward to the next few weeks of regular speedwork.  Seems like it’s just been dribs and drabs and Sample Speedwork these past weeks (which is by design) but it’s whet my appetite well, making me excited to get back into more formal speedwork again.

In other news, I came so close to buying a new phone this week because I thought mine had suddenly bit the dust.  It was taking a while to charge and though it always reached “battery full”, it would drain in a day’s time.

Thought it might be the battery so I swapped it with a spare.  Same deal, which led me to think it was the phone itself.  Then I remembered I’d had some problems charging my camera batteries the other day.  Turns out, some of my outlets don’t charge things properly, which I didn’t even know was a possibility.  When I put the charger back in one of the outlets by the outer wall, it charged perfectly!  So if anyone has some info on why this occurs, I’d be interested.  It’s weird.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy those long runs.  I’ll be doing my first really long one this cycle, a 22 miler.  It’s scheduled for Sunday but I might just do it tomorrow since the weather looks like a stunner.  Anyway, happy running and happy racing to all you speedsters.

  • I have a smart phone still NIB that I won from Verizon, you can have it if you want it. Like the new pictures BTW!

  • Flo:

Preston, that is so incredibly sweet of you to offer. My phone is working fine now, but I truly appreciate that you were ready to give up your prize like that. How’d you win a phone anyway?

  • I won it at the Mercedes Marathon door prize giveaway, we did a relay team at work and we as a team each won one. I have never opened it since I have a iPhone.

  • Flo:

What a cool prize! Well, if you win a car, I’ll take that, so keep me posted. ;-)

Enjoy your LR and stay hydrated. I’m a couple weeks behind you on my 20+ LR. If I haven’t thanked you lately for talking up Hudson on the RWOL 1:40 thread…thanks again. 19:44 5K PR this morning and looking for more next week at my HM. His workouts are doing the trick so far.

  • Flo:

Fantastic jhowdy! So happy for you, what a fast time! Good luck at your Half, I’m really looking forward to hearing about the most excellent race day you’re about to have.

Hah, I just read the report and that photo of you and Ronald McDonald is great. Congrats on the 2nd AG! So wow, a PR and it was stinkin’ hot, too! You’ve got some fun surprises coming up, no doubt about it.

  • Glad to hear that things are going good! Great news about your race and PR, yay YOU! I love the new layout pics, you look fantastic!!

  • Ewen:

A 440 yard track – that’s quaint. You did well with those – a good intro to the formal speedwork.

US electricity is dodgy – no switches on the wall outlets for one thing and 110 volts for another – you guys need to get with the times!

  • Flo:

    Thanks Stacy. :-)

Ewen, no track, I use the markers on the bike path (they’re measured correctly). I’ve been on a track once since I started running (not counting races that finish on a track). Felt like an interloper.

  • BlackBear:

I have no idea on your phone, but if you try to fix the wiring, just remember RIP = red is positive = Rest In Peace…if you get it wrong.

Happy running! Oh and like your new blog header!

  • Flo:

Lol, Blackbear, never heard that before. Did you pick that up during that your stint as your own General Contractor? (so impressed, btw)

  • I’m stumped about the outlet thing, too. My house outlets are fine, but at school, that’s a different story. Any chance the bad outlets are on outside walls? My ones at school that don’t work well are on the outside wall. (Meaning, on the other side of the wall, is outdoors.)

Great workout! I’ve never heard of a 1/4 mile track, though. Hope your 22 goes well!
