Just a shorty because I’m having too good a time to spend much attention to the internet. My hosts Jackie and Louis have the coolest house ever, it’s like a resort with grownup people’s furniture (none of this Ikea living I’m so used to) and everything so beautiful, I feel like a little princess.
The weather is a shock to the system, today’s run around the lake was 70 degrees and I ran in sports bra and shorts. It may as well be another planet entirely. Leaving is going to be a sad affair.
We drove along the course and it’s worse than I had imagined, starts with a big hill and the rollers never cease, it’s just up/down x 12 or more. It’ll be this hill wimp’s hardest race, so I’m sitting here thinking 1:36, 1:37? Hell, I don’t know. It’ll still be huge fun, just don’t be surprised by the result, ok?
I’ll have more photos later, but here’s one to start with Jackie and me at Point Loma.

OK, dinner party happening now, will be back tomorrow after the race, bye all!!

Boo on the low expectations. Yay on Jackie & Louis’ place, and the pic!!!
Nice pic, sounds like you’re having an excellent time. Don’t forget, for every uphill there’s a down!
What beautiful scenery! And, Point Loma aint bad either! :-) See you both tomorrow!!
Yes Flo, southern California is like that ‘other planet’ of Australia! Perfect weather (um, except for the odd flood or two) all year round. I see you’re not quite in full other planet mode – where are your sandals?! Thanks for the shock warning — now I’ll only be surprised if you’re north of 1:39:59. Have fun, and stay upright.
Wimp!
When I’ve driven the course, it’s always scared me – but it seems to go faster when you run it (though definitely not a PR course). The half course is much easier than the full. Enjoy the lovely weather (you are missing 12 degrees here), a pretty course, and enjoy your time with Jackie & Louis (their house is truly awesome!).
Awesome! Tell Jackie hi from me! Good luck to all of you!
Precious photo and good luck!!!! You will ROCK it!
Hey Flo, It was so great to have you out for a race and a ton of festivities. I hope you start to plan another trip. We really enjoyed having your company. Love you girl! Jackie
Congrats! You had a nice result on a hilly course (I peeked!). Your training is definitely paying off. Enjoy the scenery, warm weather, and good friends. I love Pt Loma and try to run in SD whenever I’m there. The boardwalk runs are awesome, especially at sunset.
And double congrats on the man front. I can never find any woman that will high five me, so I guess I’m stuck being single.
[...] Destination Race! Thursday, my friend Jackie from San Diego called (recall, she and Louis were my wonderful hosts for last January’s Carlsbad Half) to tell me the Carlsbad 5000 would be on sale the next day for $19 and would I like to come and do [...]
