What a great run, 5 pain-free miles in the rain. I was over the moon for feeling like my old self (if my old self wore an ankle brace). I’m not afraid of my body parts anymore!
This has been the worst thing about getting injured, I had a vision that I was a toy repaired with Crazy Glue. Like you never know when it’ll break again (jeez, can you imagine if I had a sfx?). Anway, I can’t wait to get my mileage back, though I’ll stay on the conservative side this week.
Yesterday I entered the Pfitzinger 18/55 plan into my Excel running calendar which was both titillating and exciting. I had planned to start with the 18/70 and subtract the extra runs on double days, but it looks like padding the 18/55 will work out better.
I prefer the 70′s long run schedule (5 going up to 22 instead of 3 topping out at 20) so that’s one place for modification. The other is to add some easy miles to the first few weeks since the plan starts with 4 days/week and I run more than that. It’s nice to have the wiggle room, though.
One very interesting and weird realization is that this training plan is easier than what I’ve been doing these past couple months! There’s only one hard workout a week and even that’s not as aggressive as the weekly speedwork & tempos I’d been doing, so…cool! I’m really looking forward to starting this shindig.
On an unrelated note, I saw a wonderful, sweet, hilarious, totally warped movie the other day that I had to mention to you kids: Lars and the Real Girl. Check out the trailer. It’s on OnDemand if you have that bit of cable extravagance. What a gem.

Its nice to know their’s others that get excited at looking at a marathon training plan. I got Bart Yasso’s book at the expo Saturday and was looking at the training plans he put in it. I might try the one. I posted some pictures on my blog including his.
Oh yea, I emailed the marathon and they added my time to the results.
Wonderful on getting your time written in stone! Proof that you ran it, whew!
Lol, I saw those pics. Ole Bart is a pretty good looking guy…I expected him to be a lot older.
What marathon plans did you use before?
I modified, made it up from what I read. Mostly from Glovers book and Higdon’s website. Some times I think I get too many influences lol. For next one I plan to either go close to Glovers basic competitors plan or the one in Yasso’s book. Yasso’s looked sort of like what I did and something I think I could stick too. Decisions, decisions. I am warning you if you start me talking training plans it could go on and on………..
That’s why I like the Marathon Training Forum, that’s all it is, training plan talk. I see you asked about the Yasso book, I’m interested if anyone knows. Glover’s plan looks good, 3 20s and a 22. Is mid-40s as high as you’d like to peak?
Lars and the Real Girl was so unexpectedly sweet. I teared up at the end and then felt really embarrassed for crying over a movie about a sex doll. =P
Unexpected in so many ways! Lol, I teared up, too, it was so crazy moving. Bianca was great, even though she didn’t have any lines.
Mid 40′s sounds about right for me. I like Glovers plan. I just move days around a little. And I do prefer the LSD every other week, more recovery time. If I do Akron like me and some others have discussed I will do more hill work, or like Yasso suggests in his plan, find a route thats real hilly for that distance and run it hard. Not like an easy plan. I think I got shin splint from jumping up mileage too fast and it probably part of my problem in race.
Good to hear you are back on track
I cannot wait to dump all this short game work and move onto the half and full training plans myself.
Pulled my left quad doing speedwork tonight, so I guess I will take your place on the injured list. Test #2 is only 3 weeks away, too, so I am pretty much scared shitless now
Anyway, maybe I will check that movie out while I heal
Bruce, sounds like a plan! Good to know what your body can take as far as training before it breaks down. Hope this go round is easier for you, should be since you have a base already.
Dan…aw, I’m so sorry to hear you’re hurtin’! Especially with important stuff coming up. Try not to freak out and if you need to, take a day or two off! It certainly won’t harm your training, you’ve been like clockwork for a long time now, except for the bout of flu or whatever you had. Here’s to a strong, pain free quad! Oh, and be proactive, ice, stick, whatever you can do to help it, do.
Hi Flo, so happy to hear you ran pain free! I feel like sometimes injuries cause us to appreciate our wellness more.
I, too, am following the Pfitz 18/55 plan, to start at the end of June. I’m going to modify the 20-runs out to 22.5 or 23; my last long run before the marathon a couple of weeks ago, was about 22.5 miles. I found that psychologically, it was HUGE! (Hint–if you walk around for about 1/2 to 45 minutes after your long runs, you will recover faster–I found this out while trying to find my car after that run!) LOL!
I love your posts, so please be sure to keep us updated on how the training is going!
Besos!
