Today is a dark, dark day.  Nick’s ex-wife who struggled with MS for years and has been deteriorating in mind and body (manic depressive and a constant source of anguish in the family, often getting in serious trouble) shot and killed her mother last night, then killed herself.  My poor, poor Nick…I kept telling him nothing more bad can happen because he’s had such a string of shit this year but apparently, I was so incredibly wrong.

Then (though this is so inconsequential in comparison),  I was awoken last night at 3:30am by my upstairs neighbor and kept awake for an hour so I put a little note under their door this morning at about 8am with a sad smiley face and the words “3:30-4:30am” (the girlfriend had said knock on my door if we wake you up again and I thought this would be nicer and non-confrontational).  The boyfriend puts it back under my door an hour later with the added words “you’re sad because you obviously have serious emotional problems!”

So I open the door and try to discuss it and the guy gets really angry and argues with me in a totally illogical manner, putting me on the defensive, then the crazy lady downstairs from yesterday’s post (she’s best friends with the upstairs neighbors) comes out and starts making up weird lying shit “you woke me up just now!, he didn’t wake me up, you woke me up!” (it’s 9:30am), then says ridiculous stuff like “I know all about your boyfriend” (she’s just pulling nonsense out of her ass because she’s crazy), then the girlfriend comes down so it’s 3 against me, making it like I’ve wronged them for being awoken in the middle of the night.

I just sent an email to the real estate woman (Judy of the water throwing incident) to document it, but I don’t want her to say anything because I’m afraid they’ll set fire to my apartment or something.  Judy told me yesterday that the upstairs neighbor’s lease expires in 2 months, so I guess they won’t be renewing it.  I can only hope.  This apartment stuff was funny yesterday – today, not so much.

So sorry, Flo :( Sounds like the boyfriend is just a prick. And…poor Nick, very upsetting stuff. Hang in there

  • jhowdy:

We often bemoan living a dull life, but what you and Nick have gone thru makes me realize I’m blessed.

You mentioned having an extra row to hoe…Flo you are plowing the whole field! Hang in there and know we are pulling for better days ahead for you.

  • That’s just terrible about Nick’s ex-wife and her mother. Thank God she didn’t go after Nick (or you!).
Glimmer of light on the lease front. You seem to have an ally in Judy.

  • Flo, that news about Nick’s ex is heartbreaking. That will be yet another family that will be struggling to heal emotional wounds.

  • Melissa:

I’m really sorry. I don’t know you or Nick, but it sounds like you guys have been through so much. I wish you both the best of luck.
Would you like to move out to Berks County and commute? It’s so quiet where we live.

  • Sorry about the shitstorm. You and Nick don’t deserve this. I’m with Jim — can you work with Judy proactively to find a new place to live? The middle of the night treatment would qualify as harrassment.

  • Go upstairs on a weeknight and light a stinkbomb right next to the door… and run back to your room like nothing happend!! I used to do that to my suitemate who smoked like a chimney in college… but I used the worst smelling incent known to man!! Worked like a charm!! My lungs thanked me!!

  • Flo:

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the kind thoughts. I’m not ready to move anywhere yet, so let’s just hope this fades into something liveable for the next couple months.

I did need to address something about Nick’s ex-wife though, nothing on you Jim because, not knowing the players involved, I’d have thought the same thing, but in the departed’s defense, she would never have hurt another person in any way. Strange as it sounds, this was something she did to let her kids off the hook because her father just died about a week ago and since she was deteriorating so badly and her mother had recently suffered a stroke and wasn’t doing well at all, she didn’t want her kids to have two burdens to deal with. It was a terribly twisted act of kindness in her mind, so I just had to put that out there, on record. She wasn’t a vengeful human being, just someone with more problems than most of us could ever imagine having.

  • Geese…. A note on the door is about an nonconfronting as you can get. Wow good luck.

  • What happened to Nick’s ex and her mother… tragic. I have no words. Please extend my sympathies to him.

And Flo… if those people don’t leave when their lease is up, I’d get the hell outta there! Talk about a-holes! Be careful.

  • BlackBear:

Oh geez. What a sad day. Just sad. I hope you can get some rest.

The apartment ugh, well, at least it sounds like they’ll be moving out in a few months, huh?

  • Priyanka:

I don’t know you well enough but I’m really sorry for what happened. I hope things get better from here on. Here’s wishing you much happiness and positivity.

  • Flo, I am so sorry for the things that you and Nick have gone through this year. You are often in my thoughts and I know that things will get better!

  • Kazz:

Wow, Flo-I’m a few days late in reading this but just wanted to say that I’m truly sorry about Nick’s ex and her mom.

I think the neighbor sounds like a total wack-a-doodle who thrives on drama…good for you for getting it documented.

  • Best of luck to you all in getting through all this. That’s rough.
