to my toenail. But let us not dwell in a place of sadness or fear. No, let us rejoice in its passage, joyous in the understanding that this was not the death of innocent beauty. Nay, it was but a gnarly nail that, in leaving this mortal foot, opens the door to new growth and less filing in future. Moment of silence, please.
It was gross though, I’d never seen a removed nail in it’s entirety and because there’s something enticing about grossness to me, I kept pulling it out of the trash to marvel at it, shudder, then throw it back in the trash.
I could absolutely not write a post about my toenail with at least including one link to a toenail necklace. Don’t click this if you’re easily squicked. The guy who made this apparently takes donations, so I could offer mine up, but I eventually threw it far down in the trash so I’d never be tempted to look at it again – and I’m leaving it there.
Had another fantastic run today. This is one of the few runs where I wear shortsleeves. Seems like my running apparel as the temps go from high to low is running bra–>sleeveless–>long sleeves. Short sleeves get about 5 runs the whole season.
So anyway, today is low 50s and sunny outside, and I did 7 w/8 strides. Avg pace for the run – 8:46. I love strides not only for the leg-waking properties, but it’s also the only time I get to consistently see 6:something pace on my watch. Mucho fun.
Another stellar thing about today’s run is that I’ve had ouchys from a blister on the bottom of my pinky toe from Steamtown and it’s been hurting ever since. Today was the first day where I had no inkling of it, so no on-the-go disassociation needed. Note to self: downhill racing = tie shoes tighter.
I finally signed up for the Ben Frankin Bridge 10K, so I’m all happy about starting to make a race schedule. I’m planning on a PR because it’s been a while since my last 10K, but I haven’t decided on a goal time yet. After much indecision, I’m going to forgo any speedwork and maybe get 2 measly tempo miles in on Monday at 10k pace, just so I can see how it feels. The main thing is I want to have fun without a huge pressure to get xx:xx. C’mon legs…surprise me!

That was a frightening headline, Flo, particularly for folks like me who use RSS readers and need to click frantically to see more. Then its: “Phew… Eeewww!”
Are long sleeves the end of the progression? No hat, gloves, jacket, etc?
Hee hee, I was bad with that title, huh? No worries, I would never leave you!
I do make it to jackets and gloves (and even an ear warmy thingy) but shirt-wise, that’s the order. Come to think of it, I left out bottoms, too – I make sure and wear some form of pants on every run.
I loved the farewell to your toenail. You did an awesomely creative job with that one!
Aw, thanks Christi, my toes are blushing.
Good bye toe nail. I miss you already.
Lol, what’s your address Bruce? I’ll fish it out of the garbage and send it to you. You could sleep with it under your pillow. I don’t think there’s any toenail fairies though, so it’s probably not a profitable situation.
I tossed out a toenail last week. Yes, it was a fascinating object for a while. I have no urge to send it to the necklace guy.
Was looking at a RW exercise video recently. Some gal was picking up marbles with her toes to work her plantar fascia. Her toenails looked pretty good, which prompted the thought: Is she really a runner?
How funny, I’m relieved to know I’m not alone in nail wonderment. As for the lady, did she have toenail polish on? If so, yes she’s a runner.
I would hate for you to go to all that trouble. And with the price of postage……….
LOL! Flo you are so funny. I’m glad I didn’t read this at work. I hope the trash men come soon so you won’t be temepted anymore.
I’m the same way with short sleeve shirts. I have maybe three. Everything else is sleeveless or long sleeve. Last weekend I wore shorts, a singlet and gloves. I’m fine as long as my hands aren’t freezing. After about four miles, I tucked the gloves into the waist of my shorts.
Great post. I can just imagine having a moment of silence for the toenail. I guess we all have to have some memorials occasionally.
I’ve never lost a toenail nor had to pull one off, but I have had a fingernail completely fall off. I remember I was doing a puzzle, and yep, there it was with all the pieces. I was actually quite fascinated with it as well.
Yes, her nails were painted. Is that a giveaway?
Elizabeth, how fun to think my post is up there with porno as something not to read at work. I’m honored!
Solerunner, that’s wonderfully icky, finding it among the puzzle pieces. Good visual.
Jim, nail polish covers all ills, even a missing toenail (paint directly on skin).
I just registered this morning for the Bridge Run. We will have to meet up – I’ll look for the fast looking chick missing a toe nail.
Hah!! Progman, that’d be great! I’d love to meet you. It’s a bit hard to figure on a place is all (remembering some confusion last year). Have you done this race before?
I did it last year – it is crowded and a bit chaotic. This year they have registration the morning of the race, so the registration area before or after may be the easiest spot (assuming it is in the stadium area somewhere). My SIL is one of the race organizers, I can ask her too. We have a week to think of something.
Cool! We’ll figure it out. Keep me posted once you talk to your SIL.
Off the wall question. I started listening to podcasts on my run, when you starting yours??
Oh yea did 5K this morning and killing my daughter.
Lol, Bruce, you wanna be my agent? From forums to podcasts, when do we start doing commercials? You’re too cute!!
Hey, congrats on the AG award! That’s fantastic. As for the kid…50 lashes should do it.
Hi Gim!
That neckless is hilarious! Hope I will never get one from mine together!!!
