My new-found zoominess was back on the shelf yesterday for a slowish 8-miler.  I could feel my legs were kinda tired so I kept to a normal (9:03) easy pace.  Funny how our bodies know exactly when to wrangle in our wild ways.

Even though I’m not involved in any Mileage Challenge going on at the forums, I’m still aware that I have a few days to get those last yearly miles in, so after I write this, I’m out into the world for a 9-miler, then tomorrow probably 8.  I’m already at 2027 miles for the year and that’s with getting sick for a couple weeks and taking off for my ankle after Broad St.

Nevertheless, I’ll still refrain from making a total mileage goal for 2009 and just stick to my weekly goal of high 40s-50s/week.  Whatever it adds up to in the end is whatever it is -  after all, it’s the journey, not the destination.

Meanwhile, I’m getting more serious about losing those few pounds, so four days ago I finally signed up at The Daily Plate to track my food intake.  I really like it, it’s much better than Fitday, which I used a few years ago.  The database is much larger so it’s easier to find food items.  I even made a meatloaf the other day from Allrecipes.com and the exact recipe was in there.

The whole weight issue is very low-pressure though, since there’s no time-frame involved.  Like last night we went to a friend’s for dinner and I had no problem scarfing down 4 shots of sambuca during some card-playing, along with a couple cookies (and wine with dinner).  I would have done it anyway, now I’m just more cognizant of it.  Today’s back to being good, of course.

And this ends my Looking For Something To Write About post.  Have a good day friends, and a fine run if you haven’t been out already.

Good job on cracking 2000 for the year Flo. I’m at about 1900. I never checked it till this week. Good thing, or I might have been slipping in extra miles for the sake of miles.

  • Bruce:

Good mileage. I need 5.8 miles tomorrow to make 1600 exactly.

  • I just got back from Target – the sole purpose of going there was to pick up a scale so I can closely monitor this weight loss thing. I stood in front of the scales for like 10 minutes and decided, no, I am way too OCD to be buying a scale. I know you are only supposed to be weighing in once a week but I would be weird about jumping on it every day and it would add a whole new twisted dimension to my training which I don’t want. I kinda feel the same way about the DailyPlate. I signed up two weeks ago but I’m not sure I want to go there just yet. I’m really hoping to nail the extra pounds with some slight diet changes and changes in training.

But if you could share any little nuggets you pick up from the DP that would be great (lazy Progman). I feel like the only one on RWOL that didn’t know how bad instant oatmeal is (stupid Progman).

Yay Jim and Bruce! Speaking of miles for the sake of miles, I was about to do just that tomorrow so I got my sensible hat on and will be taking tomorrow off.

Progman, you make me laugh. Fuck the instant oatmeal, it’s easy and I like it, I don’t care if its glycemic index is disgustingly wrong or bad or high or whatever it is. There are limits to how much I care about things. Especially considering artificial sweetener is one of my food groups.

I have a scale but I don’t get on it every day. I mostly get on it when I feel good about myself because scales have messed with my head enough in this life (up a pound? let me be depressed for the rest of the day). So I totally respect your feelings about it. I bet you’ll be able to make some changes that’ll do the trick.
