Doggie, adding a day isn't too bad, you just do an extra 5er for a couple weeks and there you have it, all integrated.

SD, too funny with the laundry. I know, that's another thing to consider. :-)

Jim, I can't even imagine doing them at 50, lol. Also nodding about the marriage comment, I can't imagine how Nick will take that if/when I start doubles, he's already a little leery of my running freakiness as it is, that might have him downright concerned.

Andrea, yeah, the only coach that seems to recommend them before 70mpw is Daniels. Pfitz says you should doubles after 75mpw if you're marathon training or if your recovery days exceed 8 miles (that'll apply to me very soon). Hudson says 70+ and I've read it from a couple other sources that 70 was the magic number.

Flo,
I think Pete Pfitzinger said in his marathon book that you shouldn't have to CONSIDER doing doubles until you hit 70mpw - not that that are required or necessary even when you get that high.

He was just questioning the runners he knew that started doubles around 50mpw and said that under 70 its just not worth the time.

You're awesome, Flo! Keep it up. You knock out a 60 mile week, and are immediately looking at 70 and beyond. You'll be a (even more) Super Runner in no time. Are you going to be able to run in a cape? I hear you about doubles sounding like a lot of work. I find I'm already doing laundry twice as much as I used to.. if you start doing doubles there'll be a water shortage in Philly!

Jack Daniels puts the doubles threshold at 50mpw, so we've been sinning for a while now. I'm in the mid 60's as well, 7 days, all singles. The main reason I don't do doubles is that I'd like to stay married :)
That's encouraging news from the forum. More is not always better, of course, but it's nice to know that 80+ miles of singles is not a crazy proposition.

Flo, I'm with you. I plan on upping it next time around (though Loren reminded me I was gonna push it to 60 this time. Funny how I forgot that). I dont mind the idea of double since I doubt for triathlons, though different sports. And I agree with Julie, headphone and This American Life and I zone out. My bigger issue is going to 6-7 days a week.

Julie, very true about not knocking it, though just knowing doubles aren't mandatory makes mileage building more inviting as a whole. I may change my tune once I'm averaging 70mpw.
