Since Mondays are a day off, today marks the beginning of week 10 in Pfitzinger’s 18/55 (he counts backwards to the race).
Previously, all the weeks were 3 days on, a day off, then 2 days. This week he shakes it up with 2 days on, one off, then 3 days on. And instead of the LT run opening the week, it’s not until Friday – 11 w/6 tempo, then a recovery and then a 20 miler. That little combo should be, er…interesting.
Today was simple since all he asked for was a 6-mile recovery run with 6 strides. Nice. Tomorrow is 12 so I’ll mess around with that mile-long hill again, this time doing 1.5 up and downs to make my 12 total.
This weekend I looked at the silly pile of shoes in my little office (I like them near me) and realized I’m doing with running shoes what I do with cosmetics and lotions. I use the bulk of it up, then about 3/4 into it I get bored and buy something else, so I’m left with the ends of a lot of perfectly good products. As far as shoes go, I have a couple pairs that are past 300 but still perfectly fine to use and a couple Asics in the high 200s that I stopped wearing when I fell in love with Mizunos. So I’m on a mission to use the 300+ pairs for recovery runs and the others for some medium runs so I can start clearing my room and my mind of extraneous shoes.
Other than that, the day after Nick left on his bike journey, the house started falling apart, so I’ve been repairing door handles, pneumatic door closers and my fave job of the week so far, killing a bunch of maggots in an outdoor garbage can because Nick’s son and his girlfriend who live in the downstairs apartment, are apparently unacquainted with their garbage disposal. After the disgusting job was done, every time a breeze from the window ever so slightly lifted an arm hair up, I kept thinking fat little white wormy bodies had hitched a ride on me. Ech!
With that image in mind, I wish you all a fine and fabulous Tuesday, may your day be larvae free.

I’m with you on the running shoes. My husband is a sport editor and he wrote a column about my first marathon (as a runner) and his as a spectator.Um not sure what he really participated in the spectator part other than drinking lots of beer afterwards to “celebrate his first marathon!” But anywoo, he wrote that we have enough “sneakers” in our house to furnish a family of 6 and enough braces (achilles/knee) to outfit the Pistons. F-u-n-n-y! But seriously, I get bored around the 250 mark. Or some fantastic new color combo comes out. So with that in mind……..keep on buying! I’m heading out golfing and I certainly hope it’s larvae free. Also, if you’re interested I could send you the link to his cheesy column.
Sure, stick a link to his column in a new comment, I’d love to read it! (drinking beer to celebrate his first marathon…love it!) Have a good game, I’m sure you’ll be maggotless for the afternoon, golf courses are such tony venues. Then again, the finest New York hotels are infested with bedbugs this year, so you never can be too sure.
Heidi – My spouse is participating in my marathon in a more painful way. She does not run, but got a pain in her foot. The doc yesterday diagnosed Plantar Fasciitis. Fortunately she sees the humor in getting a common running injury, while I’m OK. Thanks for taking that one on for me, Sweetie. More ice?
Yep. She’s telling me: “Be sure to drink enough during the race, I don’t want to get dehydrated!”
HAHAHAHAHA!!! I am so laughing out loud right now!!
Ok, here is the link to my beloved marathoner of a husband’s column on my first marathon. Hope it works. Jim, talk about sympathy pains! Heard about it with pregnancy but not running! Damn, I wish my Dh could pick up some of my ailments!

If this doesn’t work, you can go to michigansthumb.net and then follow that to the sports blog. The post was on Thursday, May 8.
I have got to point I use Mizunos exclusively. Of course that can always change. Not sure how but I got a pair still sitting in box unused for like 3 or 4 weeks now.
Heidi, I LOVED it!! Your husband is a fantastic writer. I hope everyone checking in here reads it, it’s so funny and at the same time, totally touching with his devotion to you, not to mention soooo familiar (except your diet…you’re a much cleaner eater than I
). Thanks for sharing that.
Bruce, me too!! Mizuno rocks! In fact, I’ll be posting a link in today’s entry with the coolest video from Mizuno. You’ll love it.
Heidi, thanks for sharing the article, good reading
Flo, I don’t believe anyone has ever wished me a larvae free day, (I can’t even imagine anyone else coming up with that!
Jim, your wife sounds like quite the comedienne! (Could be another Rhonda Dangerfield).
